Parched land but not barren
Pregnant but not ready to deliver
Patient as if time was irrelevant

Like a fading black and white photograph
not carelessly forgotten but placed in prominence
with air and light doing their work over decades

Fierce as a vulture with a hummingbird’s allure
being pushed forward by the force of seasons
without burden, without toil, without malice

Seeking solitude at the southern tip of the world
and coming to understand it isn’t lonely or alone
embracing its misfit visitors never judging intent

Imagination is not captured here, it is loosed
to a mind enamored by urban clutter and blight
this is open and plain, offering a simple beauty
