(Curious Nature Of) Suffering July 28, 2008

It’s the curious nature of suffering that weighs heavy

an essence of fallen human nature

an excuse for evil or just thoughtlessness and carelessness

and would it exist if we didn’t enable it

would God refrain from having to use it if we simply let it go

but we don’t, we say we can’t, it’s complicated,

it’s jumping the shark, nuking the fridge, it’s precise ambiguity

no small feat in this thrown down world, so we believe

it’s the curious nature of suffering that weighs on us now

like a turnpike in a blizzard, a truck in torrential rain,

a seagull soaring against the wind, formidable foes, all,

and none as formidable as suffering, emotionally draining,

physically debilitating, spiritually regenerative suffering.
