Critical Lips June 6, 2008

Critical lips of a mouth in perpetual motion

from a face unpainted, unswerving, undaunted

Dancing the sinners dance smiling wryly

critical lips of a mouth fronting for a pained face

from skin cracked and bleeding from sun

Concentrating on the poker hand with Abba

Waterloo blaring in the background distracting

critical lips of a mouth moist with Avon

legendary cunning, damaged and flawed

Waking and pushing away the peace

once embraced now must be removed

critical lips of an old woman long not kissed

fronting a face smooth, deflecting its age

Critical lips of a mouth in perpetual motion

from a face unpainted, unswerving, undaunted

used to live in California, now in Alabama,

staggering toward the next move unsteadily
