Memorial Day memorial May 26, 2008

I struggle with Memorial Day, remembering those who do not return,

and those who do and share the horror of war, and those who do

and never utter a word of it, leaving it to our imagination how it must feel.

Honoring the war dead, and those who have survived, is more important

than I can begin to express. So, this is brief, not for the grief and not for

quick relief, but for the solemnity of the day, for precious silence,

for those who know and will know the price we must pay.
