White Leaf January 23, 2008

White leaf, half frozen, crinkly and crunchy,

overtaken by a Georgia winter never intending to

be this cold for this long, and to snow on you.

If you had lived, you would have sought solace in the sun

but as it is, I will let you lie there untouched, at peace,

waiting for the wind to push you down the ravine to the creek

then out to the Chattahoochee and gone.
