Glass globe October 2, 2007

A glass globe, heavy, sitting on an occasional table, so called,

both round, heavy, not giving anything to the breeze moving

swiftly through the room, rustling papers and making bobble head

dolls bobble as if they were talking, had something to say.

A glass globe, maybe crystal, it’s hard to tell for the untrained

or undiscerning but, clear with a hummingbird suspended

in the middle, like mid-flight, as if it were captured there

and frozen in the moment and so it is.

No bubbles in the glass, no imperfections to be found,

a small chip on the base is the only trace of age

if it is a trace, if it wasn’t manufactured recently

and simply damaged in shipping, likely from China.

A globe, heavy, clear as glass, maybe crystal,

it’s difficult to know for the undiscerning eye,

the layman is at a distinct disadvantage from this view.
