The pain is gently crafted August 28, 2007

The pain is gently crafted when you peel away its skin.

It’s reading a first draft or walking a minefield of sin.

It was intended for the trash heap when it gracelessly caught your eye.

Memory of the words cut deep and you had to sit down to cry.

I am the lighthouse keeper. I don’t pretend to be the light.

I am elusive as a mouse and I don’t presume Divine might.

My abode is behind your kitchen wall and you may hear me if things are still.

And should we chance to meet in the hall, you are prepared to kill.

You may scurry off in tears as I stand in momentary shock.

You become captive to your fear, as behind you the door does lock.

The pain is gently crafted, you know, when you peel away its skin.

It’s a river reversing its flow, its Satan’s jewel crown of sin.
