Meddlesome archives,

historic intentions laced with

traditional lies.

Standing in the shadows

innocent by-standers,

no, a society of shadows,

dragged from a video vacuum.

These things become muted

like years yellowing paper

or a scratchy vinyl record,

once crisp now sadly shabby

out of date, out of time.

They are a noisome friend

if they can be friend at all.

Blunt, rude and demanding,

not out front but worse,

always in the background.

They are conjured without premeditation

linger like a monsoon

and largely unpleasant.

Although there are moments,

aren’t there, where nostalgia

with its flaws can capture

and comfort the weary heart.

Yet they be meddlesome archives,

historic intentions laced

with traditional lies.
