Christmas Eve 2005 April 17, 2007

All of what you know and can’t imagine
are embodied in Christmas.
Boldness and grandeur mixed with melancholy and nostalgia –
Hope for the future and sullen regret for what has past.
And we don’t have to admit to anything
since it is revealed in us every day we live.
The financial wizards tell us:
“Say what you like,
but show me your checkbook and
I’ll show you your life.”
It’s too horribly true!
Yet, the checks always seem to clear.
The creditors are satisfied.
Wheels of commerce are allowed to spin care-free.
While my accounting methods cripple and I’m chronically short.
It doesn’t diminish my spirit tonight. Not tonight.
